How to help those affected by the Northern California Fires.
The fires that have torn through Northern California are unlike anything I’ve ever seen. Absolutely unreal and heartbreaking. Many have been displaced and have lost everything.
Can you even imagine the deep sense of loss, fear and heartache people are feeling?
Sit in that tension for a moment.
But know you can do something to help. I understand that in situations like these that it can be easy to feel overwhelmed. After all, you can’t help everyone.
But you can help someone.
And if all of us help someone then we may just be able to help everyone.
So here’s what you can do:
1. Pray
No this is not some cliche. Yes, I really do believe prayer can shift things. I’ve seen it. I’ve experienced it. I am confident in this. But I’m equally confident that prayer is simply our starting point. Because after we pray we must…
2. Do Something
Serve. Give. Serve and give. But do something. We’re making this really easy at Canvas. We hear that most centers and shelters have received enough clothing and food (although I’m sure it doesn’t hurt to continue to donate items if you desire). But I have heard that gift cards to places like Safeway, Target, etc. are really a helpful resource to those in need. So this Sunday we want to invite you to buy a gift card (or two, or three…) and bring them to Canvas. You can drop them off at the Next Step crates under the Presidio marquee.
Generosity is not something we do — it is who we are. Thank you for leading the way in being ridiculously generous and creating a future of hope for others.
